6The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. 7 Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you. 9As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day. 10When they arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the Spirit of God came upon him in power, and he joined in their prophesying. 1 Samuel 10:6-7,9-10  NIV

This scripture is a hope-builder for those people that struggle with powerlessness to break bondage and to live for God. The man who was transformed in this passage was Saul, the new (and first) king of Israel. The prophet Samuel was telling Saul what he was to do and what would happen following his public selection as king. Saul was the most handsome and the tallest man in all Israel. He was a choice physical specimen to lead God’s people, however, his heart was not right for the mission. The needed change was apparently something that Saul could not have done on his own, so God changed it instantly.

For the sex addict, God recognizes that you are in a bondage that has a powerful hold on you. Your heart is not right for the mission God has for your life. It is bound with lust, idolatry and memories of the things you’ve seen. If you decide to call on the Lord for help, indicating a willingness to walk the road he has prepared for you, I believe that he will help you by changing your heart so you can complete his mission for your life. The change may not be as quick as was Saul’s, but it certainly could be.

God worked in my own life in a quick fashion, enabling me to break the main portions of porn and masturbation addiction overnight (see my story). I have spent the following years since then learning how to take my thoughts and eyes captive to the obedience of Christ.

God’s mission for me is to tell you about how you too can get free and serve him. It is important to follow-up whatever he does in your heart with obedience in whatever he prompts you to do. His Spirit will guide you and bring the junk in your life to your attention to deal with as you are able. Remember, God is with you when you commit your way to following him!

Questions for further thought:
What promise from God is the basis for transformation to occur in your life? (Acts 2:38-39)
What actions should precede calling on God for help and deliverance? (1 John 1:9; James 5:15-16)
What has God given you already that will help you diffuse the lies of sin and Satan that have held you in captivity? (John 8:31-32)

Prayer:
“Heavenly Father, I confess that I have tolerated sin in my life. Please forgive me for my sin and purify me from its residue. I believe that you are the God of the impossible. I call on you now and ask for your help, healing and deliverance. Thank you that through my faith in Jesus Christ, I can claim the promise of the Holy Spirit. Father, please fill me with the Holy Spirit and revive me to respond in obedience and sensitivity to the Spirit. Please transform my heart and make me into the new person that you created me to be. Thank you, Father! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
